Nervous System
Regulation Therapy
You're not overreacting. Your nervous system is just stuck in a pattern it learned a long time ago.
You snap at people you love and don't know why. You go from fine to completely overwhelmed in what feels like seconds. Or maybe it's the opposite: you feel numb, flat, checked out, even when life is asking you to show up. Sometimes it's both, cycling back and forth in a way that's exhausting and confusing. This isn't a character flaw. It's a nervous system that never fully learned it was safe to settle.
Does this sound like you?
✺
Your emotions feel disproportionate to the situation, too intense, too flat, or completely unpredictable
✺
You feel chronically anxious, irritable, or on edge without a clear reason
✺
You've been told you're too sensitive or too much, and part of you has started to believe it
✺
Small stressors send you into a spiral that takes hours or days to recover from
✺
You struggle to calm down after stress or conflict even when you want to
✺
You feel chronically anxious, irritable, or on edge without a clear reason

The nervous system has one fundamental job: to keep you safe. It does this by constantly scanning your environment for threat and shifting between states of activation and rest in response to what it finds.
When you grow up in an environment with chronic stress, unpredictability, or emotional overwhelm, the nervous system adapts. It learns to stay ready. To stay alert. To brace. And over time that adaptation becomes the baseline, even when the original circumstances are long gone.
This is what dysregulation looks like. Not weakness. Not being too emotional. A nervous system doing exactly what it was trained to do in a world that no longer requires it.
The good news is that the nervous system is not fixed. It is deeply responsive and adaptable. With the right support it can learn new patterns, ones built around safety, presence, and genuine rest rather than constant protection.

Nervous system regulation is at the center of everything I do at Embodied Therapy. Every modality, every conversation, every session is oriented around helping your nervous system find its way back to a more settled and flexible state.
This work starts with understanding. Many clients feel immediate relief simply from learning what dysregulation actually is and recognizing that their responses make complete sense given their history. That shift from something is wrong with me to my nervous system learned this is often where healing begins.
From there we work gently and practically, building your capacity to notice when your nervous system is activated and developing real tools for moving through those states rather than being swept away by them.
Together we may explore grounding skills, mindfulness, self compassion, body awareness, boundaries, and nervous system regulation to support emotional balance and resilience.
Our work may draw on:
Somatic therapy to build body awareness and work directly with physical states of activation and shutdown
Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand the protective parts of you that keep the nervous system on high alert
Somatic CBT (SCBT) to shift the thought and body patterns that keep dysregulation cycling
Psychoeducation grounded in nervous system science so you understand exactly what is happening and why
The goal is not a life without difficult emotions. It is a nervous system that can move through them and come back to itself.
